Snickerdoodles

Here's
a favorite from an old cookie recipe book in my collection.

BETTY CROCKER’S COOKIE CARNIVAL
Published in 1957
Oven temperature: 400°F (moderate to hot oven)
Time to bake: 8 to 10 minutes
SNICKERDOODLES
Mix thoroughly:
1 cup soft shortening (part butter)
1½ c sugar
2 eggs
Sift together & stir in:
2 ¾ c sifted GOLD MEDAL flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp soda
¼ tsp salt
Roll into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in mixture of 2 Tablespoons of
sugar & 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Place 2 inches apart on un-greased baking
sheet. Bake until lightly browned, but still soft.
(These
cookies puff up at first, then flatten out.)
Yield: About 5 dozen 2-inch cookies.
